Radhanagri Wildlife Sanctuary

Lies between the catchment areas of the major reservoirs of Rajarshi Shahu Sagar and Laxmi Sagar, the Radhanagri wildlife sanctuary is the first declared wildlife sanctuary in Maharashtra. Covered by Rocky Mountains and dense forests, the sanctuary is blessed with a rich and diverse flora and fauna. The rivers Bhogavati, Dudhganga, Tulshi, Kallamma and Dirba flow through the sanctuary before draining out into the Krishna River.

The Sanctuary contains tropical evergreen forests typical of the northern Western Ghats. The main species found over here are Anjani, Jambul, Hirda, Awala, Pisa, Umbar, Jambha, Gela, Bibba and banana. Karvi is found over almost the entire area. Large numbers of ephemeral bulbs of seasonal plants are also found here.

The rich fauna of the Sanctuary contains 47 species of Mammals, 59 species of reptiles, 264 species of birds and 66 species of butterflies. Indian Bison or gaur is the flagship species of the sanctuary. It also houses mammals like Indian Leopard, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Barking Deer, Sambar and Giant Squirrel.

WHEN TO VISIT : The most preferable time to visit Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary is from the months of October to March. During that time the temperate climate would allow you to spend quite some time viewing the graces of white desert with Mother Nature.

CLOTHING : Cotton or linen full-sleeve outfits which match with surroundings like dark green, muddy-brown and rocky-grey are the ideal clothing color. Avoid shiny or reflective clothes during safari which may diverts or attracts wild animals & birds’ attention which may become cause them leaving the place.

Safari

OPENING OF SANCTUARY: Every Year Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary remains open from 15th October to 30th June for visitors. The park is close from July to October for visitors.

VISITING DURATION: 2 to 3 hours.

PERMIT : Permits obtain from the concerned park authority before you make entry to the Park. Tourists can obtain day visit permit at entry gate.

JEEP Safari at Kutch is a delight for adventure lovers and wildlife photographers. It is advisable to book safari rides in well advance to avoid any chance of unavailability. The star attraction of the park is Indian bison or gaur roaming inside their natural habitats.

Jeep Safaris at Radhanagari can be done in morning and afternoon Shift. The jeep can accommodate up to 6 people per safari. It explores especially those places, which are difficult to travel via any other mode of transportation.

TREKKING : Trekking is a unique opportunities for wildlife lover in Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary. One can trek the park with recognized guide at a prescribed fee by the park authority. On the way to your track you can explore the biodiversity of fauna and flora. The various trek routes include Raksai Mandir to Rajapur, Farale-Surangi Gate to Dajipur, Thakyacha Wada to Manbet-Borbet, Ugvai Devi to Phonda Ghat Point, Phonda Ghat Point to Shivgad, Zunjuche Pani to Hadakechi Sari, Wagache Pani to Laxmi Point, and Laxmi Point to Jalwache Pani.
