Manas National Park

Manas National Park a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site is Located in the Himalayan foothills and contiguous with the Royal Manas National Park in Bhutan. The name of the park is originated from the Manas River, which is named after the serpent goddess Manasa. The Manas River is a major tributary of Brahmaputra River, which passes through the heart of the national park. This park is also a Tiger Reserve in Assam and famous for its Majestic Tigers.

Manas National Park has an exotic feel to it, with a stunning dense forest and the blue hills of Bhutan looming in the distance. Famous for its population of the Wild water buffalo, The Park is known for its rare and endangered endemic wildlife such as the tiger, pygmy hog, Indian rhinoceros, Indian elephant, Assam Roofed Turtle, Hispid Hare, Golden Langur and Pygmy Hog.

The park is divided into three ranges. The western range is based at Panbari, the central at Bansbari near Barpeta Road and the eastern at Bhuiyapara near Pathsala. You get permits to enter the park at Barpeta Road. When you visit Bansbari then spend some time inside the forest at Mathanguri on the Manas River at the Bhutan border. You can enter in your own 4-wheeler or a hired one. There are no Forest Department safaris but private resorts offer safaris, elephant rides, walks, tea plantation and village visits on offer.

CLOTHING : Cotton or linen full-sleeve outfits which match with surroundings like dark green, muddy-brown and rocky-grey are the ideal clothing color. Avoid shiny or reflective clothes during park safari which may diverts or attracts wild animals & birds’ attention which may become cause them leaving the place.

By Bus

Manas National Park is well connected by motorable roads with different places. There are excellent bus services provided by private and State Road Transport Corporation, connecting Manas National Park.

By Train

The nearest railhead Barpeta Road is placed at a distance of 20 km. from Manas National Park. The station is connected by trains to the major cities and towns of the country. From the railway station, you can get a taxi or bus to Manas National Park.

By Air

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport Guwahati is the most convenient airport at a distance of 136 km. from Manas National Park. The airport provides connectivity to various major cities of India. From the airport, you can get a taxi or bus to reach the Park.

OPENING OF PARK: Every Year Manas National Park remains open from 1st November to 30th April for visitors. The park partially opens in the months of October and May. The Park is close from June to September for visitors.

PERMIT : Permits obtain from the concerned park authority before you make entry to the Park. Tourists can obtain day visit permit at entry gate.

JEEP SAFARI IN MANAS: Manas National Park consists of mixed vegetations ranging from tall grasslands to thick Sal forest and so is the perfect habitat of variety of animals and birds. JEEP Safari at Manas is a delight for adventure lovers and wildlife photographers. The star attraction of the park is majestic tigers roaming inside their natural habitats.

Jeep Safaris at Manas can be done in morning and afternoon Shift. The morning shift starts early at the time of Sunrise up to 04 hrs & the afternoon one starts in between 02 PM to 03 PM up to sunset. 6 passengers are allowed in each Open Jeep to travel along with one naturalist and one driver. It is advisable to book safari rides in well advance to avoid any chance of unavailability.

ELEPHANT SAFARI IN MANAS: Elephant Safari in Manas is the most attractive part for the enthusiastic tourists. You can view the entire area of the park over a tamed elephant. Elephant safaris are arranged by the tourist department.

Sitting on the top of the elephant in a wooden cushioned chair and moving through the undulated hilly terrains spot tigers, viewing the wild animals, rare avian fauna and spectacular plant fauna is really an adventurous experience for any traveler.</
