Madhav National Park

Madhav National Park was named after Madho Rao Scindia, the Maharaja of Gwalior belonging to the Scindia dynasty of the Marathas. The Park got the status of a National Park in 1958 is fascinating mix of natural splendors of history and architectural wonders. Earlier its dense forests were the hunting grounds of the Mughal emperors & Maratha royals.

This National Park has a varied terrain of forested hills and flat grassland around the lake. The park is very rich in Biodiversity is unique in having both lake and forest ecosystems. Sakhya and Madhav Sagar are the two lakes in the park, which are important biodiversity support systems. These lakes not only add to the natural beauty of the area, but also provide a permanent source of water to the wildlife, and a fine wetland habitat to the aquatic fauna including thousands of migratory waterfowls.

You'll find several activities within the park premises, making your visit here just that much more unforgettable. Marsh Crocodiles are in abundance in Sakhya Sagar Lake. Due to this, the lake looks like a "Crocodile Safari" and attracts special attention of tourists. The park host More than 227 species of birds can be seen, and a large number of migratory birds visit the park during winter.
