Kamlong Wildlife Sanctuary

Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary lies in between Lang River on the North side and famous Namdapha National Park on its south. The scenic beauty of the Sanctuary is a bound and un-comparable because of its location, terrain and perennial water sources. The elevation in the sanctuary ranges from less than 500 m to a lofty 4500 m above sea level. The name comes from the River Kamlang, which flows through the Sanctuary and joins Brahmaputra.

The vegetation broadly classified into tropical temperate and Alpine forests. Tropical wet evergreen forests are present in the foothills and lower reaches of the Sanctuary, where as Alpine vegetation is expected dominating in the upper reaches of “Daphabhum peak” just bordering Namdapha National Park. The Sanctuary also hosts a few water bodies among which Glow Lake is a significant one having a circumference of about 4 to 5 km.

The sanctuary houses 61 species of mammals, 105 species of birds and 20 species as identified in Namdapha Tiger Reserve are likely available at Kamlang Sanctuary too. The sanctuary houses animal like Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Snow Leopard, Hollock gibbon, Slow lories, Himalayan palm civets etc. The famous pilgrimage centre, “Parasuram Kund” can be approached from Wakro throughout the year at a distance of 20 km.

WHEN TO VISIT : The most preferable time to visit Kamlong Wildlife Sanctuary is from the months of October to April. During that time the temperate climate would allow you to spend quite some time viewing the graces of Mother Nature.

CLOTHING : Cotton or linen full-sleeve outfits which match with surroundings like dark green, muddy-brown and rocky-grey are the ideal clothing color. Avoid shiny or reflective clothes during safari which may diverts or attracts wild animals & birds’ attention which may become cause them leaving the place.

OPENING OF SANCTUARY: Every Year Kamlong Wildlife Sanctuary remains open from 15th October to 30th June for visitors. Remaining time the park is close for visitors.

PERMIT : Permits obtain from the concerned park authority before you make entry to the Park. Tourists can obtain day visit permit at entry gate.

JEEP Safari at Valmiki is a delight for adventure lovers and wildlife photographers. The star attraction of the park is hoolock gibbon, tiger, leopard, capped langur and red panda roaming inside their natural habitats.

Jeep Safaris at Kamlong can be done in morning and afternoon Shift. Travelers are allowed to travel along with one naturalist and one driver. It is advisable to book safari rides in well advance to avoid any chance of unavailability.
