Occupies an area of about 1342 km2 Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary is the largest natural reserves in the famous Kaimur hills range. Established in 1982 the wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most prominent tourist spots in Kaimur district of Bihar. It also spread over the wide range of Mirzapur district and Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh. The lush green dense forest covers with numerous waterfalls, treasure of pre-historic caves, rock paintings & heritage of rare fossils makes it an ideal spot for winter tourism.
The Sanctuary house the animals like Royal Bengal Tiger, Wolf, Leopard, Black Buck, Chital, Sambhar Chinkara, Blue Bull, Indian Monkey, Baboons, Bear, Porcupine, Peafowl, Mongoose, and Ratal. You can also find several kinds of birds like the Grey Quail, Doves, Francolin, Black Partridge, Colored Francolin, Red spur, and Cotton Teal. Anupam Lake and Kalidah near Rameshwar-kund proves to be the home to fishes.
Visitor can see the pre-historic paintings of Lakhania near the Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary. These 4000 year old pre historic Rock paintings are in terracotta color. The paintings shows depict hunting, war scenes, cattle grazing, bee-keeping, worshipping, decorative floor designs, and domestic chores.
When you visit the wildlife sanctuary you find the Echo Valley Near the sanctuary. It is natural valley where phenomenon of echo is distinctly observed. Any sound thrown in the direction of the valley reflects its echo. The sanctuary is an ideal place to rejuvenate oneself with renewed energy and vigor.

OPENING OF SANCTUARY: Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary is open throughout the year for visitors.
