Erode an amazing tourist destination is situated on the banks of the Rivers Cauvery. The place has its origin from the existence of the two rivers as Perumpalayam and Kalingarayan Canal. As per another local belief Erode the place apparently derives its name from the words "Eara Odu" which means "wet skulls".
Erode is proudly called the Loom city of India for its power loom fabric products, handloom and readymade garments such as printed fabrics, bed spreads, cotton sarees, carpets, towels and dhotis. The city is a central place for producing turmeric, and coconut and is also known as "The Turmeric City" or "Yellow City". The turmeric produced here is exported worldwide.
Bhavanisagar Dam, Periyar Memorial House, Vellode Birds Sanctuary, Brough Church and Mohamoodia Masjid are the place to see in Erode. The textile city is also home to a plethora of temples, the most popular being the Bhavani Sangameshwarar Temple (Mukkoodal). The temple is a merging point for three rivers, Cauvery, Bhavani and invisible Amudha.
